My View

June 10, 2007 · Leave a Comment

After reading tons of different blogs and viewpoints, many of which I don’t agree with, I decided to start writing my own. It will be my viewpoint and some won’t agree with it, but I am open to listening to yours. So, feel free to comment, Please!

I am a passionate, intelligent person. Yet, sometimes I feel like I am watching the world through my window, wondering what world I have suddenly found myself. It seems like a foreign world. Where individual needs (selfish needs many times) are more important than kindness and compassion. Where more and more people without cause or conscience take the life of another. These things are causing the world to change to the point that it isn’t recognizable anymore. It certainly not the world I want my daughter to live in.

As she starts her own independent life, the world is much different than 20 years ago. In many respects it is better but not all ways. I can’t imagine being so connected (or at least the illusion of being connected) with anyone and everyone else around you. But are we really connecting? Do we trust that person we are connecting with? Is our worldview jaded by the age of 16 because of the lack of trust we have with everyone?

So, instead of ranting about how bad the world is I will be making an effort to do something, anything to make it a better place. (Although I may go on a rant or two!) I pledge to do something for someone else – out of kindness and compassion- not for my own needs. I suspect that I will get quite a bit out of it as well (so it is a bit selfish), but hopefully what I put out in the world is more than I take from it.

I have been wanting to change my life. Soul-searching for what I really want to do. Like many people I have moved from job to job, gaining experience and “moving up”, taking care of my family. Then I was in a car accident and my life changed. It would never be the same again and for that perhaps at this point I am thankful. Now, the hard part what do I do?

Here’s my passions:

- I am a liberal, open-minded person who believes strongly in individual rights and freedoms. And that those civil rights should be protected at all costs even within our own government

- I believe that we are blessed to live in North America where we have an abundance and have the opportunity to change our own fate. We have a responsibility to protect and help those within our own country and beyond our borders.

- I don’t believe that children should be raising children. I think that we need to make a concerted effort to change the fate of hundreds of thousand of children in Africa who have been orphaned due to AIDS and war. We need to do something to protect them. We have a responsibility to be their voice when they have none.
